Thursday, June 19th, 2008: The End of Black Snake Moan

     Dear Friends,

It is a time of great change, personal and collective and I have chosen this time to end Black Snake Moan. Having been through 5 different incarnations over 10 years, I have played with some amazing musicians and had a lot of fun, but to put it simply, I'm just not that pissed off anymore, and these songs don't quite feel like me.

Our first show was at a club called So What on April 4th, 1998. Our last show will be this July the 10th, 2008 at the DNA Lounge. We will be opening for 16 Volt, Bella Morte, and Everything Goes Cold. It will be a slightly different show than normal, and I am really excited to play.

I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but I think I caught a case of the "fame sickness." When I started the band I was 21 and I had this whole plan for becoming the next Trent Reznor. I think I got too wrapped up in the sales and marketing end of the music world; the schmoozing, the lifestyle; to wrapped up in emulating the musicians I love instead of honing my own voice; and I forgot to just have fun, be grateful and keep practicing and improving. Oh well, live and learn.

I'm sad to see BSM end; sad that it didn't go as far as I dreamt it might. Dear Rob once told me that being in a band is a little like buying a lottery ticket; most people just don't win. Platitudes are great but basically, I didn't "make-it" and it's a bummer.

     See? I told ya; Fame-sickness.

However, I have no intention of eating a bullet over the matter so I have started to work on some new music in a few different styles; stretching my creative muscles. What this will yield is anyone's guess, but for the first time, in a long while, I'm having fun again.

To all of you who have supported me and my art over the years, thank you, thank you, thank you; for showing up again and again; for throwing down real cash to see us onstage; for listening; for giving your attention, your feedback, your excitement and for sharing the ride with me. I'm truly grateful. I will be posting additional MP3's from the Black Snake Moan archives over the next month or two, and building an cyber grave for all things BSM. More music, pictures and info coming soon.

     With Love and Respect,

     Paige Lawrence
